This
isn't the first time Elias shaved his head for a role
(see "Some Kind of Wonderful"). But I think this is the
first time he's been executed! As Edgar
Reese, Elias is a death-row inmate who is possessed with
'Azazil', the entity of a fallen angel. Prior to
execution in the gas chamber, he tries to pass the
entity onto Denzel Washington. When unsuccessful, the
entity emerges from his body at the moment of death to
inhabit unsuspecting individuals.
The entity can pass from person to person by simply
touching them.
Elias' role is the very beginning of the movie
and through the opening credits. He can also be seen in
a few flashback scenes showing a documentary made on
Edgar Reese.
