Elias plays a priest-turned cop who goes up against an angel-turned hell-raiser (in the human form of creepy Christopher Walken). The archangel Gabriel (Walken) has started a war in heaven so that no souls on earth can leave dead bodies.

     Gabriel is looking for a particular evil soul to help him win the battle against God's angels. Eric Stoltz, a good angel, steals the soul and plants it inside the body of a little girl. Elias and Stoltz team up to stop Gabriel.
