The
film stars Eric Stoltz as Keith, a
pleasant
young man who is an outsider at his high school. He
would rather be an artist than fit in with the crowd,
and his best friend is another outsider, a tomboy,
Watts, (Mary Stuart Masterson).
Keith has a crush on Amanda Jones
(Lea Thompson), who is the school sexpot. He even has a
song written about her, which is performed about three
times on the soundtrack. She goes steady with a stuck-up
rich kid.

It takes Keith the entire length of
the movie to realize that Amanda Jones is not right for
him, Watts is. However, Keith has to confront Amanda's
ex-boyfriend in the process.
Elias plays a skinhead named Duncan who befriends
Keith and comes through for him at the end. Way to go,
Elias!!

Duncan quotes:
(To teacher): "Like,
those were a gift ... from ... from your wife."
"I'm here to kick your ass, and you know it,
and everybody here knows it, and above all, you deserve
it. In fact, I think it's safe to say that this party is
about to become a historical fact."
"It
must be a hen house, because all I see is chicken shit."
"This is what my girlfriend would look like without
skin."
